This presentation informs students of the current Labour Market Information (LMI) about:
- Greenwich and the surrounding boroughs and the massive regeneration of the Thames Gateway Area.
- The subsequent employment opportunities that will be open to them in the future
- The need to develop employability skills

CAREERS IN ACTION DAYS
Science, Health & Public Services
Students will be able to meet a variety of science, health and social care professionals to find out about job opportunities and career paths. They will be able to discover what the job involves by being shown demonstrations or participating in practical elements of the job.
Construction & The Built Environment
Students will be able to meet a variety of construction industry professionals to find out about job opportunities and career paths. They will be able to discover what the job involves by being shown demonstrations or participating in practical elements of the job.
Leisure, Tourism & Business

Students will be able to meet a variety of leisure, tourism & business professionals to find out about job opportunities and career paths. They will be able to discover what the job involves bybeing shown demonstrations or participating in practical elements of the job.

DISCOVERY TRAILS
Thames - Architectural new 2009
The Thames Architecture trail guides the students through the fascinating and diverse environment along the River Thames. By completing the trail they will cover some of the most varied land use and see different styles of architecture. The trail consists of activities to do along the route with additional challenging issues for discussion in class to help encourage and develop a thorough understanding of the different styles of architecture, past, present and future.
Greenwich - Leisure & Tourism updated 2009
A trail takes the participants around key areas of Greenwich Town Centre highlighting the different areas that may normally pass unnoticed. Each participant is provided with a trail leaflet, which contains a map to follow in order to reach the answers to the questions. The answers are often not on eye level and may be outside, or sometimes participants may have to enter an establishment and ask members of staff. Need to contact TFL for free travel after 9.30am.
Greenwich Peninsula updated 2009
A trail takes the participants around key areas of the Peninsula highlighting the different areas that may normally pass unnoticed. Each participant is provided with a trail leaflet, which contains a map to follow in order to reach the answers to the questions. The answers are often not on eye level and may be outside, or sometimes participants may have to enter an establishment and ask members of staff. Need to contact TFL for free travel after 9.30am.
Docklands - Business
A trail takes the participants around key areas of the Docklands highlighting the different sectors of business that may normally pass unnoticed. Each participant is provided with a trail leaflet, which contains a map to follow in order to reach the answers to the questions. The answers are often not on eye level and may be outside, or sometimes participants may have to enter an establishment and ask members of staff. Need to contact TFL for free travel after 9.30am.

INTERVIEWING SKILLS
Session 1: Students will look at how to conduct themselves in an interview and how to answer typical interview questions through roleplay.
Session 2: Students will be given the chance to practise their interview skills by attending mock interviews in front of a real employer.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Students will look at and discuss the principles of customer care by looking at different customer service scenarios, discussing good and bad customer care & customer care role plays, Customer Service professional may attend to pass on their experience and knowledge to the students.PREPARATION FOR WORK EXPERIENCE
An Interactive drama performance shows students the importance of work experience, how to choose placements, how to conduct themselves in the interview, what to wear, what to expect in the work place and how to behave appropriately.
NURSING CLINICAL SKILLS



The session will start in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Practical Suite where they will be introduced to the role of a nurse and some of the duties they perform on a regular basis! There will be the opportunity to practice various procedures as well investigating the reasons behind blood pressure, temperature checks and other procedures when a patient is in hospital. Students will need parental permission as the session includes testing their own blood sugar levels. It is advisable that the students wear trousers.
FIRST AID
2 hour Taster Sessions
By the end of this training course trainees will be able to administer CPR & rescue breathing, place a casualty in the recovery position, treat a person who is wounded or bleeding, or a casualty who has a fracture, burn or soft tissue injuries. Students are advised to wear trousers. All trainees will receive a certificate of attendance.
Emergency First Aider
By the end of this 4 hour training course trainees will receive a recognised first aid certificate and have an understanding of the principles of first aid, the role of the first aider in an emergency, personal hygiene, incident management (including effective communication) and will be able to perform first aid treatments.
STIXX

Available to hire are two hand cranked machines that magically turn waste newspaper into rigid rods that can be joined together. Perfect for use on design & technology, art or enterprise projects etc
